Mail Aid All Missive

Mail Aid
by
Pam Amado and Carl Imboden

This is a rotten time to be a postal worker. Electronic communication is diminishing our mail stream while our managers attempt to outsource and automate our jobs. What we need is Mail Aid, an increase in the mail stream that simultaneously provides us with more work and slows our society's rush to a paperless world. In the absence of any rock stars to hold a Mail Aid concert, we'll have to create the change ourselves through the way we interact with the Post Office as consumers. Your purchasing power could save some postal worker his job--it might even save your job--so please carefully consider some questions about your spending habits.

Brother, Can You Spare A Stamp?

by
Pam Amado and Carl Imboden
(two beleaguered postal workers)

	Hello, Dear Reader.

You've probably received this letter because you know a postal worker. It's a bad time to work for the United States Postal Service (USPS), because electronic communication and a downsliding economy are reducing the mail stream while postal managers simultaneously scheme to replace us with machines. They'll even use machines that don't deliver mail as well as we do, provided the machine is cheaper than we are.

Whatever Happened to the Eight Hour Day?

‘By: Steve Early & Suzanne Gordon'
What Ever Happened to the Eight-Hour Day?
www.thenation.com Posted October 23, 2007
One afternoon in mid-August, Senator Hillary Clinton visited a Nevada hospital to participate in a union-sponsored "Walk a Day in My Shoes" program for presidential candidates. There she learned firsthand about the new realities of work schedules for nurses--and many other wage-earners. Clinton expressed amazement at the workload of a typical healthcare professional. "Your mother worked me to the bone today," she told the children of Michelle Estrada, RN, during a dinner-table conversation at their home later that evening.
